Project Intro
This active young family needed a designated resting spot to collect sports equipment, shoes, and coats in their not-so-typical main entry. What was the original home’s porch had been closed in to connect a new master suite & provide access to the gorgeous back yard. The space lacked any storage or continuity to the rest of the home.
Design Challenges
This new mudroom was fraught with design challenges. It had six, yes six, openings, a fireplace, and steel framed doors that anchored it on each end. The long rectangular space was highly trafficked so furniture had to be kept to a minimum. Since this entrance also serves as the actual main entrance to the home, we had to design something that was visually beautiful, and highly functional.
Final Result
LH&H was able to visualize the space in a new way to design a bright, airy, and unexpected mudroom.
We designed and installed clean-lined built-ins so there is now plenty of functional storage in this space. The unique hardware we selected makes a strong statement in what would otherwise have been a long bank of storage cubbies. A custom printed grasscloth wallpaper welcomes you to this lovely home. The circular shape breaks up the strong geometric lines found in the architecture to add interest while providing a playful appearance.
